About Mike

Michael Jensen began his career and passion for fitness with 11 years dedicated to the YMCA. While earning his degree and serving a masters level internship in the San Diego State University Exercise Physiology lab, Mike developed an unparalleled commitment to increase professionalism in the industry.

 

Mike opened Science Fitness Personal Training in 2001. Dedication to the highest standards in the industry led to the expansion and opening of our Group Exercise studio two years later. A Level II Certified Personal Trainer through The American Council on Exercise (ACE), Certified Jeet Kune Do Instructor and Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Mike applies martial arts philosophy and positive energy to help people reach individual fitness goals and maximize their physical potential.

 

Outside of Science Fitness Mike spends his time surfing, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, skating & motorcycle riding with his girlfriend Jill.

About Dan

 

Dan brings a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and experience to Science Fitness.  He has earned a Masters Degree in Athletic Training from San Jose State University and a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from San Francisco State University.  As well as personal training, Dan has worked as the Athletic Trainer for Torrey Pines High School preventing and caring for injured athletes. 

As a Health Educator for American Specialty Health, Dan assisted countless individuals with nutrition, exercise and stress management before realizing his passion is for working with individuals more directly. 

In his spare time he enjoys snowboarding and walking his dog Harley with his wife Lori.

About Melissa

Melissa earned her Bachelors Degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney where she played both basketball and softball (and one golf tournament).  After graduating, she worked as a personal trainer and
taught kickboxing for several gyms in Nebraska. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at San Diego State University and hopes to write for a health/fitness magazine in the future.

When not working or studying, Melissa can be found doing anything active including her most recent hobbies of surfing, golfing, rollerblading, running, and making s’mores.

About Dawn

Dawn earned her Bachelors Degree from McDaniel College in Westminster Maryland where she was a three sport collegiate athlete playing soccer, basketball and track.  After graduating, she worked as a personal trainer and fitness director throughout Maryland before deciding to move to San Diego to pursue our Master's degree in Kinesiology at San Diego State University.

Dawn has a very friendly and energetic training style and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Science Fitness. Her philosophy is that exercise should be mentally, emotionally and physically enjoyable. The more enjoyable it is, the more likely it will become routine and therefore show greater results!
 
Outside of Science Fitness Dawn enjoys running, swimming, weight training, yoga, basketball and soccer (everything and anything outdoor and physical).

About Jaime

Jaime brings years of experience in sports medicine and personal training working as a certified athletic trainer. She received a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology/Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science: Athletic Training from Brigham Young University.

Jaime has worked as a certified athletic trainer (ATC) at Innovative Health and Rehabilitation and served as the Head ATC at Norwalk High School both in Norwalk CT. She has also spent time working with University of Virginia Football, Men’s Tennis, and cheer and dance teams. She most recently comes to us from the Olympic Training center where she works with summer and winter Olympians. Along with working in personal and athletic training, Jaime is currently studying to receive her Massage Therapist License at Mueller College of Holistic Studies. She enjoys being outside, learning to surf, and she hope to own a vintage scooter in the near future.

About Amy


Amy Ornelas
is an enthusiastic, passionate Dietitian with a wide variety of experiences in Dietetics. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Foods and Nutrition with an emphasis on Dietetics from San Diego State University. She then went on to complete a rigorous internship at the VA San Diego Hospital, after which she earned her RD. She developed a strong passion for helping people who struggle with weight and body image issues while serving as the Director of Nutrition at a prominent eating disorder treatment center here in San Diego. Utilizing the non-diet approach, she has had the privilege of guiding countless people to build healthy relationships with food and reach their personal nutrition goals. In addition to her work with eating disorders, Amy has a broad background in medical nutrition therapy, general weight management, and wellness nutrition. She works with her clients in a collaborative way in order to elicit behavior change.  She truly loves educating people about nutrition and helping them achieve their goals.

 
Outside of Science Fitness Amy enjoys hiking, kayaking, and snowboarding with her husband Vino and son Lucas.

About Molly

Molly graduated in 2006 from the University of Illinois and then went on to complete a dietetic internship, gaining a lot of experience in outpatient counseling, clinical dietetics, and conducting group education classes and cooking demos.

She became a Registered Dietitian in 2007 and since have worked as the program Dietitian for UCSD-Share the Care and as a nutrition counselor to pregnant women at a perinatal clinic. Molly's nutrition specializations are in perinatal nutrition, pediatric nutrition/childhood obesity, and weight management. 

Outside of work, Molly enjoys being outside, going to the beach, traveling, and spending time with her family, friends, husband, and puppy.

About Carlyn

Carlyn  has been teaching group exercise classes for over 8 years and personal training for 6. Aside from her enjoyment of teaching and practicing yoga, she also enjoys salsa dancing, and training for and competing in endurance and ultra endurance races. She loves being active and wants to share that passion with others. 

Currently Caryln is pursuing her master's degree in Exercise Physiology at San Diego State University.  Upon completion she would like to pursue a Ph.D. or move into the medical field.

About Shauna

Shauna Pribyl began taking Pilates in 2005 after a knee injury curtailed her marathon training. After 4 years of being a Pilates student, Shauna entered a Pilates Certification Program in the Spring of 2009. She continues to run, bike, swim and practice Pilates. She has been a Kensington resident since 2007 and a San Diego resident since 1993. Shauna has a B.S. in Accounting from San Diego State University and a MBA in Finance from the University of San Diego.

She is certified in Basic Lift Support/Adult CPR and is a Gravity Pilates Reformat Evolved Instructor. Shauna continues to expand her studies and practice of Pilates.

Ann Duren, a Certified Yoga Instructor is formally trained in Classical Hatha Yoga. She is also an experienced Viniyoga practitioner. Incorporating the Vini tradition with her classical training, Ann's teaching style emphasizes the basic postures, individual adaptations, dynamic movement and integrated breathing. Her love of Yoga is translated in her practice. As her student you will not only develop a stronger and more flexible body, but also a peaceful mind and spirit. You will experience a comfortable blend of physical rigor and relaxation with attention to your individual needs.
